Who are the Competitors of ChatGPT? 12 Biggest Market Players

In November 2022, ChatGPT's launch revolutionized the technological world. ChatGPT brought an AI-powered chatbot that could not only answer user's questions with generated text, but it could write content, articles, code, even Youtube script and even more.

After the launch of ChatGPT, many and more AI-powered NLP (Natural Language Processing) have cropped up, and the competition among LLMs (Large Language models) is become increasingly intense.

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is an AI-powered chatbot which is developed by Microsoft backed OpenAI that was launched in November 2022.

ChatGPT is a member of the (GPT) generative pre-trained transformer family of language models. ChatGPT is based on versions of GPT 3.5 and GPT-4 families of Large Language Models (LLMs) and can query the internet via the Bing search engine and Google search engine.

ChatGPT has been trained by using reinforcement and supervised learning models. It is also sibling of InstructGPT. InstructGPT has been trained to follow the user's input in detail. It also respond promptly.

The capabilities of ChatGPT will likely to evolve significantly over time, As OpenAI has confirmed that they are working on GPT-5 language model.

Generative AI and the competition

Generative AI is a type of AI that can generate videos, images and other content from text in response to a user prompt based on its training data. ChatGPT is an example of text-based generative AI solution.

One of the main advantage of generative AI is that i can produce content with less resources. These tools can use copyrighted training data and automate human jobs.

In the increasing market of AI Chatbot, generative AI is a real game changer. It has changed the technological world. It takes the data from the search engine and trains the AI models.

Content creators from different platforms like Instagram, Youtube, Facebook, Reddit and many others platforms, use the ChatGPT and other AI Chatbot to create content. With the help of GPT, they create images, videos, animation and post it to social media platforms.

Everyone know ChatGPT, but a range of competitors from Google and Meta to Amazon and Anthropic, are using LLMs, deep learning, fine-tuning to establish dominance in the market.

Who are the Competitors of ChatGPT?

There are many promising competitors in the AI LLM space. Below are the names of them.

1. Claude

Claude is the next generation Artificial Intelligence, is produced by Anthropic that uses NLP to generate conversational text based on the training data from up to December 2022.

This AI model can summarise, search, and create content and creative writing ins a more conversational format than ChatGPT.

Other major differences are that it can process files uploaded by the prompt user, and it supports a large number of words for each prompt with 1,00,000 context tokens compared to ChatGPT's 8,000.

2. Meta Llama 2

Meta Llama 2 is a open-source LLM produced by Meta. It supports up to 70 billion parameters and it is trained on 40% mode data than the original version of Llama.

Llama 2 uses training data from July 2023 and has comparable scores to GPT-3.5 under the MMLU (Massive Multitask Language Understanding scoring system.

However, one of the best Llama 2's selling point is that it is free for research and commercial use.

3. Microsoft Bing Chat

Another big competitor in the LLM market is Microsoft's Bing Chat, an AI-powered version of Microsoft's Bing search engine which was launched in February 2023.

Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO of Microsoft, said that, "AI will fundamentally change every software category, staring with the largest category of all-search."

Microsoft Bing Chat uses GPT-4 as its underlying LLM, giving it an advantage over ChatGPT based on the less powerful version GPT-3.5. Microsoft Bing Chat performs better at giving answers search queries and providing more reliant search results at the time of writing.

4. Google Bard (LaMDA)

Google Bard, is on the biggest competitors in the Chatbot market. It is an AI-driven chatbot launched in March 2023. It uses the training data taken from across the web to inform its responses.

Bard was originally made on LaMDA (Language Models for Dialogue Applications) and now it includes Google's newer version LLM PaLM 2.

The major differences between ChatGPT and Google Bard is that Bard processes data taken from the web and Google services and Apps, while ChatGPT uses a mix of a proprietary training data set and results taken from Bing.

5. AI21 Labs

AI21 Labs is Tel Aviv-based AI based offering a platform called AI21 Studio. It provides users access to a series of trained LLMs like Jurassic-2.

This platform can add Natural Language generation, paraphrasing capabilities, and text summarization to external applications.

6. Midjourney

Midjourney is an emerging Artificial Intelligence vendor that is developed its own machine learning model, also called Midjourney. It can convert text into images.

The solution, can be access through the Discord Chat app, can make high-resolution and high-quality images for users to download directly to their devices.

7. Stability AI

Stability AI is an startup which was founded in 2019, which has gained significantly popularity due to its diffusion model, Stable Diffusion. Stable Diffusion is a text to image tool that enable users to generate details pictures and images.

This organization also boasts other multimodal solutions. It includes Stable AI, text to audio solution that turns written prompts into 44.1 KHz stereo audio, and the "harmless" natural language generation model Stable Beluga.

8. Perplexity AI

Perplexity AI is an AI chatbot which is based on GPT-4 and GPT-3 that acts like a search engine. It scans the internet to respond to user queries. It was originally released in August 2022.

One main features included with this AI is that it also shows the source of the information it provides to the users.

In this sense, Perplexity AI offers transparency over its sources and can provide real-time information taken from all over the internet.

9. Amazon Codewhisperer

Amazon Codewhisperer is an AI tool that has been designed for Developers specifically. It ML and LLM algorithms to check code and provide real-time recommendations.

This AI tool help developers to improve productivity by generating code recommendations. It is also free for developers at the time of writing.

10. Amazon's New Language Model

Amazon is one of the big player in generative AI marketplace. During this year, It proposed the Multimodal chain of thought large language models, which was reportedly significantly more effective and efficient than GPT-3.5.

On the ScienceQA benchmark, This new Amazon language model performed better than GPT-3.5 by 16% points (75.17%). This benchmark is a big collection of annotated response to multimodal science questions.

It indicates that Amazon's large language models is more efficient at handling complex reasoning.

11. Jasper AI

Jasper is an Artificial Intelligence virtual assistant and copilot assistant that is designed specifically to help produce marketing content with GPT-3.5.

With this AI, a user can scan user's website alongside resources like product catalogs and style guides to give the chatbot an understanding of the company's brand voice.

Jasper AI can create tone of voice-centric marketing content. It differentiates it from ChatGPT's general -purpose text generation.

12. GitHub CoPilot

GitHub has its own AI-driven coding assistance named GitHub CoPilot. This AI coding assistant designed to help developers create code using the Codex large language models. GitHub CoPilot is designed to provide auto-complete suggestions for syntax and code while the user is typing.

Unlike ChatGPT, GitHub CoPilot was designed specifically to help software developers produce code faster.

The Bottom Line

Based on the above AI tools, we can conclude that text generative tools will disrupt many aspects of human life.

ChatGPT is the most popular AI chatbot at this point. But in the market, competitors are upgrading their technologies with new and unique features and initiatives.

Some chatbots are so generic that they create most reliable and simple response that user can understand. Although It is very difficult to understand and predict the future of AI chatbots. It depends on human how they use it. It will change our lives significantly in the near future.
